Session 1

Session 1 - 11/05/2021

The official kick off of the campaign.  Mike joined us with two high elves; a wizard and rogue, who are siblings.

After some flavor about the state of the world and brief introduction to your city & operating business, you went to the company office and received business requests from the town Decurion (a roman title, in this context basically a city mayor), Jandar Lackman.  Also visiting you with company business was Flavius Astorio.

Jandar informed you that your nearest neighbor to the south had sent a rescue expedition into a small dungeon called Crawlan.  Your neighboring city to the south is Vespaspian, famous for their cheese.  They sent a team to rescue an imperial princess for a reward.  The expedition hasn't returned and so they've sent out messengers offering 25 gold for information.  Jandar suggested we rescue the princess ourselves to claim the reward for her safe return as well as Vespaspian's reward of 25 gold.  He believes the dungeon is full of orcs, who likely know to expect further trouble.

Flavius informed you that a caravan sent to the city of Constasius to the north is two days late.  He didn't really have anything else he could offer, though he suggested the group stay to the road and let them know the caravan was shipping 100 gold worth of dried fish and was expected to return with a shipment of the same value of whatever they could get for a low price.

After lengthy deliberations, the party decided to pursue company business first and headed north, in the direction of Constasius.  Along the way, they asked a few hunters and traveling traders if they'd seen or heard anything about the caravan.  One had and indicated they had seen it a few days ago along the road heading in the direction of the player's town, but that they hadn't seen it since.

Also along the way, the players became acutely aware of a number of wolves in the area; first out in the woods, then at their camp as they circled them during a rest.

After another half day, the party encountered 3 wolves - two regular and one dire wolf - chewing on a severed horse leg.

After another minute, they ran into another pack of wolves - this time 4, and dealt with them.  The wolves were eating two dead horses.  Nearby they found their missing caravan.  A sweep of the site revealed a few things:

  • A set of footprints leading off to the north by northwest
  • The wagon was missing its shipment
  • There were no mortal bodies (no humans, dwarves, etc)
  • A fallen tree across the road had intentionally been cut and pushed to fall across the road
  • Explosives were setup on the nearby bridge in such a way to explode and collapse the bridge without doing intentionally lethal harm to whoever was crossing

The adventure concluded at that point with the party taking a short rest.  We'll resume next time at the conclusion of the rest.
