Session 16, 5-6-2022
The session began with the party just outside the ruins of the Turian shipyard. After a few minutes of debate on what to do about the ghosts found inside, they decided to head to the town keep and talk to the city guard. After some deliberations and persuasion, the city constable agreed to meet the party along with 3 additional guards at the shipyard to deal with the undead threat.
Diego blessed the guards and then everyone stormed the building. Once inside, the undead were identified as two spectres and a banshee. With the building now crowded, the banshee let out a face-melting screetch, dropping two guards and Lozo. Diego was able to get everyone back up on their feet. And despite a hectic fight and low hit-points afterwards, the entire party including the NPCs survived.
The constable paid the party 7 gold he had on him and indicated they should return to the keep tomorrow for more appropriate payment. Inside the shipyard, amongst scattered papers in an old drafting room, the party found a pendant with the Church of the Fellow Sun's symbol, stained with blood.
After a little more debate, the party decided to next head to the Chuch to ask some questions about the pendant, murders, and Gruybile, who from what the party heard, was the admiral of a small fleet the Church maintains.
When the party reached the church, they noticed a commotion at the Church's docks. Moving closer, they found that there was a bearded man with a hook onboard a ship, along with a woman with auburn hair. They were helping to load up the ship with cargo and passengers, who were evidently pilgrims heading east. When the man spots the party, he shouted: "Ichthys! They’ve figured it out after all! Hoists the sails! Raise the anchor! Make sail, lads! Get us out of here.”
The crew of the ship kicked away the gangplank then began preparations to set sail. The party used some quick thinking to create a make-shift gangplank of their own and boarded. In the chaos, Randy shoved Gruybile off the ship. Once in the water, he screamed up at the crew to stop making preparations to set sail and to get him help. The party then fought an extended fight with the crew, Gruybile and the woman who rained arrows down on them from a hiding spot at the prow of the ship. Shoving was a highlight of the fight, as was magic missiles and the rogue, who briefly downed Mike. But eventually the entire crew and the woman (later identified as Elizabeth) were killed and Gruybile knocked unconscious.
In his last moments of consciousness, he tried to destroy a nearby chest, but failed. Inside, the party found a letter from the Prelate Supreme of the Church. (the handout is attached)
The encounter was worth 1,040 XP (secondary characters 520). The session also completed a milestone, awarding 2,000 XP (secondary characters 1k). In addition, all party members have inspiration.
